Rancho Rehab/Preservation Housing Button

The concept of the Housing Preservation and Rehabilitation promotes and restores livability to older existing homes. This is considered a form of community revitalization because it aids home owners with returning their aging homes by providing assistance for structural improvements essential for access, health, and safety.  Many of these homes having fallen into disrepair and the owners are financially unable to make improvements due to being lower income household, elderly and/or disabled and on a fixed income.

Home improvement is necessary in a regional market experiencing such growth in new housing stock as the Coachella Valley because it provides some remedy for individuals unable to afford to buy a new home.  Furthermore, it allows long time residents to remain within neighborhoods of long standing familiarity and insures the reduction of injury and/or illness related to extended years of use without replacement, environmental impacts, or less than adequate efforts to repair.  The program may be used for improvements to standard, manufactured, or mobile homes for:

  1. Weather damaged, leaking, or sagging roofs
  2. Floors supports, replacement, and patching
  3. Windows for energy efficiency
  4. Plumbing fixtures, hardware and appliances
  5. Electrical wiring, connections, and fixtures
  6. Heating, and air conditioning units, swamp coolers, and vents
  7. Retrofitting to accommodate disabled access including ramps and walkways, bathrooms, floors, or installation of disabled assistance equipment
  8. Painting, fencing, and gates may be approved as related to other issues as listed above

Through the financial assistance of DACE, DCEZ funds, USDA Housing Preservation Grant program and jurisdictional partners, RANCHO provides construction management for home improvement, rehabilitation, and preservation to very low and low income home owners.  The program extends to the unincorporated communities of Mecca, Ripley, Mesa Verde, Oasis, Thermal, North Shore, and to the cities of Coachella, Blythe, and Palm Desert.

Some restrictions to participation may apply.  Qualified applicants for the program must fall within certain income parameters as determined by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development Household Income Guidelines; must own the residence for which assistance is being requested, and home must serve as primary residence for applicant.

Assistance is provided by licensed and bonded RANCHO General Contractor that works with resident/applicant to identify appropriate items for repair or replacement that are of greatest need.  Pre and post work inspections are performed to insure completion of work as prescribed
