HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES

Since its inception, DACE has eagerly sought partnerships with both public and non-profit agencies and funders directed at finding immediate and long-term solutions to the critical need for health care services to the rural residents of the Eastern Coachella Valley.  DACE’s commitment to improving access to health and human services extends to programs and agencies that:

  • Promote better health management through education, information, and referral to appropriate healthcare professionals
  • Work within the community for a grassroots approach to health needs assessment
  • Provide financial support and technical assistance towards reducing and/or eliminating barriers
  • Recognize the need for high quality, accessible, and affordable health services and strives to deliver them consistently
  • Encourages students to pursue careers in Healthcare to insure diversity in health care providers
  • Recognize and focuses its efforts to address the health needs of agricultural workers, children, youth, and the elderly as special populations at risk.

DACE is committed to:

  • Improving the patient-physician relationship
  • Improving the healthcare delivery system
  • Resolving language problems
  • Understanding cultural and folk illnesses, patient beliefs, literacy, and transience

Access to Health and Human Services for rural residents is challenging for a variety of reasons.

These reasons include:

  • Disparities in healthcare access to facilities
    and culturally competent providers
  • Treatment and Pharmaceutical Resources
  • Chronic Health Status
  • Affordability
  • Follow-up

While Community Health Centers struggle to meet the needs of the residents they serve, residents suffer the consequence due to the lack of facilities, staff, and Physicians.

Though we strive to provide equal, and high quality health care to all individuals, the complexity of addressing the social and economic concerns of the individual patient can become laborious on the system.  Couple this with an approximate 15,000:1 Patient/Doctor ratio, and you have the making of communities in critical need.

DACE has funded, sponsored, and participated in multiple programs in support of improving health services to our local residents.

These programs include:

  • Mobile Medical Services and Health Fairs
  • Printing and Distribution of Medical Education Materials
  • Advocacy for increased funding to construct Health Centers.

The critical need for primary and preventive health services in rural communities is increasing at an accelerated rate as are the size of the population and healthcare costs.  DACE remains an advocate for increased access to health and human services as a necessary resource for sustaining the human capital of the community.
