ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Our Economic Development continues to establish a base of business and capital investment towards regional growth and sustainability.

Promoting economic empowerment within rural communities is difficult on several fronts.  Rural communities are lacking in retail, commercial, and professional facilities from which businesses can deliver goods and services that support everyday living.  Most residents must drive or rely on public transportation to access work, goods, and services up to 10 miles away from their homes, thus investing in a community other than their own. By comparison, most urbanized and some suburban communities have the same access afforded within 1 mile of their homes.

Many of the communities that DACE serves also suffer from high unemployment and lower wages, which has resulted in an economic depression of sorts and disinvestments.  Utilizing the principles of the Work-Live Initiative, DACE hopes to provide opportunities for education and training, support services, dining, retail, professional, and social services within each of its planned retail/commercial ventures.  In this way, residents will be able to be employed within their local community as well as obtain goods and services, which will be reinvested back into their own community through sales and revenue taxes.

DACE’s focus for Economic Development is to promote economic opportunity through:

  • Construction of retail/commercial centers within the communities’ center; within walking distance for primary residents
  • Encourage business development through retail, commercial, entrepreneurial, and micro-enterprise venues
  • Attract new businesses to rural communities
  • Job creation, training, and retention for local residents
  • Provide appropriately zoned space for relocation and/or expansion of existing businesses
  • Fostering facility designs that are socially, economically, and culturally integrated with the residents and businesses alike

With each generation of the average family, opportunities multiply to learn, grow, and earn more income.  DACE is committed to building and operating facilities through which economic opportunity in business and jobs will be available for the generations of today and tomorrow.
